The Bob Ganssle Industrial Arts Award was established in Bob’s name to recognize those deserving students that show originality, exceptional skill and abilities within the Wood working program that we offer at El Camino Real. Bob Ganssle was a former student and teacher at El Camino that had been instrumental in the establishment and growth of the wood working arts. He passed away in 2012.
In 2012, we established the Scholarship in his name, awarding a top performer $500 to use to further their love of being a craftsman or woman. This will be the 5th year we have been able to award more than the initial amount, and being able to go as far as a 3rd place finisher.
Senior Students are required to develop an original concept, design the project, budget materials , manufacture, and finish their projects. This year in 2016-2017 we have had 22 viable candidates participate, 14 finishing on time, and a continuing presentation of unique and outstanding projects.
The top performers are kept a secret and announced at the Annual Senior Awards night.
This year the top award went to Benjamin Sleman, making a custom Guitar, the second was Arlen Krouse designing and making a work bench with American Flag inlay, a tie went to third for Kellen Pfister making a wall cabinet also with american flag inlay, and Ramal Samarsinghe making an old red school house dog house.
We are very proud of our students talents.
