JV Cheer Mini Tryouts

Dear JV Cheer Applicant,

My name is Mrs. Corbett. I am the Cheer Adviser at El Camino and together with Coach Amanda Sanchez, we welcome you to the added tryout session for the Junior Varsity Cheer

Team for El Camino Charter High School. We have already had our annual tryouts for the 2017-2018 season.  However, some incoming girls to El Camino were not aware of tryouts and we want to offer them the chance to tryout.  This will be a two-part tryout.  We are looking for girls with strong tumbling skills (back handsprings and/or back tucks) and strong cheer skills (jumps and stunting abilities).  Everyone is welcome to tryout.

What to Expect at Tryouts:

Day One – girls will be taught a dance, cheer, jumps and facials.  The first day will end with the Tumbling portion test only. There will be a warm up for the tumbling tryouts, but please do not attempt skills that you don’t already have.  The tumbling passes you will be marked on will be a round off back handspring and a standing back handspring.

Day Two – will end with girls tested on the dance, cheer, jumps, and facials.

During Day two, girls will work on the requirements and be tested on the above skills.

Requirements of JV Cheerleaders:

The JV team cheers football, basketball and volleyball throughout the school year. We practice every day 6th period and after school until 5pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Basketball games are Wednesdays and Fridays and that starts in the winter. You cannot participate in any other sport at ECR as a cheerleader due to our demanding schedule. If you make the team you must commit to both fall and spring semesters. Cheerleaders are expected to be at every games and every practice – no exceptions. No other extracurricular activity comes before cheer. Every absence from a practice or game requires a doctor’s note. You may not be a part of an extra-curricular activity if it interferes with Cheer. *Any personal commitment such as vacations, doctors appointments, or work are not considered an excuse for missing practice or games. Excuses such as a family dinner, party, ski vacations, etc., will not be accepted.

Good Luck and see you at tryouts.
